Chelsea could be forced to sell Ian Maatsen in the January transfer window.
The Blues have not yet made any progress in contract negotiations for the defender
Chelsea could reportedly be forced to sell Cobham graduate Ian Maatsen after no progress was made in contract negotiations.
The Blues accepted a £31.5 million bid for the Netherlands international at the end of the summer transfer window, but Maatsen decided to reject Burnley to stay at Stamford Bridge.
He has found little playing time this season but has impressed both in pre-season and when given a chance in the Carabao Cup, most recently against Brighton.
According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are yet to make any progress on his future and may be forced to listen to offers for him in January.
The report claims the Blues had made two contract offers to Maatsen before accepting Burnley’s one in the summer, but no extension has yet been signed.

Maatesen’s contract expires at the end of the season and Chelsea risk losing him on a free transfer if he does not sign a contract by the end of the season.
With Malo Gusto suspended and Reece James currently injured, Maatsen could be called upon by Mauricio Pochettino, although Marc Cucurella played at right-back on Wednesday.
Ben Chilwell is also due to undergo a hamstring scan and could be sidelined, opening up opportunities for Maatsen in his more natural left-back role.
The 21-year-old has been deployed further up front by Pochettino, who has only given him two starting appearances and four substitute appearances so far this season.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Maatsen, but Chelsea are unlikely to be willing to take the risk of a talented academy graduate leaving for free next year.
Burnley, where he spent last season on loan, could return as a full-back in January, while there is interest in Maatsen in the Premier League.
