Starting the 2023/24 season in much better form than last season has put the Reds back in the race for the Premier League Cup.
After four they sit in third place, level on points with Tottenham, West Ham and Arsenal, and two points behind tied leaders Manchester City.

However, his former club’s performances at the start of the season have caught Souness’s attention and he cannot escape the fact that they will be serious contenders this season.
Atthe end of his Friday column for Mail Online, the Scot announced:
“I will make a bold statement on the race for the Premier League which continues today: Liverpool will finish first or second this season
He then explained his thoughts and praised two of the club’s summer signings, both of whom have contributed significantly to the improved results.
“I see a stronger Liverpool,” he continued. “Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai seem to understand the demands of playing for the club.
“Our football needs to challenge Manchester City’s dominance and Liverpool can provide that.” They pose the biggest threat to Pep Guardiola who would win four consecutive titles.
This wood doubt be contested by those closer to one of the premier clubs in north London or east Manchester at this very early stage.
Further more, an early kick-off against Wolves today offers Jurgen Klopp’s players the opportunity to prove Souness right and demonstrate their qualities as champions-elect by temporarily moving to the top of the league.
