Cleveland is in need of a quarterback after losing Deshaun Watson for the season with a fractured shoulder, but Jones hasn’t shown much growth in an important Year 3 with New England.
And while the Patriots haven’t set Jones up for success between the receivers and the offensive line, some blame falls on the quarterback. Jones is still making ill-advised throws and back-foot passes that have resulted in turnovers.
He’s also been benched three times this season and it’s unclear if he’ll remain the starting quarterback after New England’s bye week.
Maybe Jones would benefit from a change of scenery, but there’s no guarantee the Browns would flourish with Jones under center and give themselves an honest shot at the playoffs.
It’s unclear what Jones’ future looks like in New England. But he probably wouldn’t have much of a fair shot at being a starter with Watson signed to a five-year deal.
