Sir Jim Ratcliffe has named a shortlist of five candidates to become Man Utd’s new sporting director

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already drawn up a shortlist of five candidates as he searches for a new sporting director at Manchester United.

While Ratcliffe’s bid will see the Glazers remain the majority shareholder, it is believed that the INEOS team will be responsible for the football operations, while the Americans will handle the commercial side.

Ahead of the proposed deal, Ratcliffe is said to have drawn up a shortlist of candidates for United’s new sporting director.
According to the Daily Mirror, former Monaco and Tottenham Hotspur manager Paul Mitchell is on Ratcliffe’s list.

The 42-year-old left Monaco last month and is highly regarded across Europe as he has also been linked with Liverpool.

Newcastle United sporting director Dan Ashworth is also said to be on the radar, but it will take a huge sum of money to lure him away from the North East.

Former Liverpool sporting directors Julian Ward and Michael Edwards are also said to be interested in Ratcliffe.
However, their links to the Anfield club could make things difficult.

Finally, the CEO of INEOS, Jean Claude Blanc, is also said to be on the wanted list.

Blanc became CEO of the INEOS sports empire, which includes football, rugby, Formula 1 and cycling teams.

The Frenchman has also worked in the past for big European clubs such as Juventus and Paris Saint Germain.

According to the Times, the INEOS team’s first priority is to shake up United’s playing squad and football staff.
