Liverpool and Manchester United have both been linked with a move for Antonio Silva, but the Benfica defender prefers a move to Real Madrid.
It’s no secret at this point that Jurgen Klopp’s priority in 2024 will be a new centre-back.
The Reds have been linked with quite a few names in recent months, but none are as exciting as the young Silva.
Liverpool and Manchester United are targeting Antonio Silva and want to go to Real Madrid
Liverpool have been linked with the acquisition of Antonio Silva for over six months.
Interest from the Reds emerged in February this year, with reports that Silva is one of Klopp’s main targets to strengthen his defence.
Several media outlets continued to link Liverpool with an attempt to sign the talented young centre-back.
One even said the Reds sent scouts to observe him last month.
Manchester United have also been linked with a plan to sign the defender in the January transfer window, but if a report from Portugal is to be believed, Silva has other ideas.
Record (print edition, 9 October 2023, page 16) says that while Liverpool and Manchester United have been repeatedly linked with a move to sign Silva, the player is not tempted by a move to England.
Silva has reportedly welcomed interest from the England squad but is not “blindsided” by their pursuit.
This is because the boy sees Real Madrid as the biggest club in the world, amid rumors that Carlo Ancelotti’s team are also interested in signing him.
It has been suggested that Silva would prefer a move to the Bernabeu rather than Anfield or Old Trafford.
Silva is protected by a €120m (£103.5m) release clause in his contract.
Ronald Koeman claims Ryan Gravenberch after the Netherlands tackle
Ronaldo Koeman has suggested there is still a route back for Ryan Gravenberch at the Dutch base.
The Liverpool midfielder was suspended from international duty this week with both the senior and under-21 sides.
After joining the Reds from Bayern Munich on the summer transfer deadline day, Gravenberch withdrew from the team in September ‘Netherlands Under 21.
Instead he wanted to use the time to settle in at Anfield and acclimatise to his new surroundings, although the decision was criticized at the time by Koeman.
The former Everton and Barcelona manager admitted he still has a ‘certain opinion’ about Gravenberch.
And although the 21-year-old has one goal and two assists in seven appearances for the Reds, Koeman claimed Gravenberch has not shown enough to be called into action.
Via Nu.nl Koeman said: “We have a certain opinion about the cancellation of the Dutch Juniors. He hasn’t played much yet.
I still think he’s a great talent and I hope he plays a lot at Liverpool and continues his development.” He will then certainly be a player on the Dutch team.
