Norwich City has struggled thus far this season in their attempt to gain rapid promotion back to the Premier League.
The Canaries are 13 points behind the automatic promotion positions but still in contention for a play-off spot, sitting in seventh place, three points outside the top six.
David Wagner’s promising start at Carrow Road has come to an end, with Norwich gaining just two points from a possible nine before the international break, missing out on a place in the play-offs. There will undoubtedly be changes at Carrow Road next season as Wagner attempts to reshape his squad.
Here are five Norwich City transfer sagas that could emerge during the summer transfer season…
Max Aarons – Out Aarons’ tenure at Carrow Road could come to an end in the summer if the Canaries fail to regain their Premier League status, despite the full-back playing vital roles in both of their previous top-flight campaigns.
According to Football Insider, Aarons is ready to leave Norwich City in the summer, as the team appears to be in decline.
Since breaking into the spotlight, Aarons has been a desirable commodity, with Manchester United previously connected with a deal for him in October.
Gabriel Sara – Finished
After only arriving from Sao Paulo in the summer, the Brazilian has sparked a lot of curiosity after finding form at Carrow Road.
Sara started just once in the first two months of the season due to a poor start in England, but he’s since established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet.
The Sunday Mirror (via West Ham Zone) stated that West Ham United, Atletico Madrid, and Red Bull Leipzig are all interested in signing the 23-year-old. If such clubs come knocking, Wagner will face a difficult battle in retaining the Brazilian.
Teemu Pukki – GoPukki has become a Norwich City hero over the years, with the Finn scoring 88 goals in 203 appearances for Norwich.
However, the 32-year-old recently told Pink Un that he will make a decision on his future in the summer, with Pukki focusing solely on where Norwich can finish this summer.
Norwich’s final league position could give Pukki food for thought, with their failure to achieve promotion potentially giving the 108-man Finland international a new challenge.
End of contracts… Norwich currently have a list of players who played in the top flight without contracts at the start of the summer. Marquinhos and Isaac Hayden will see their rental contracts expire at the end of the season.
With the contracts of Kieran Dowell, Michael McGovern, Onel Hernandez and Sam Byram expiring in a few months and no extensions in sight, the latter has suffered terribly from injury problems in recent years.
Attack reinforcements… Norwich are currently the fifth highest scoring team in the league this season, but with the potential departure of Pukki, Hernandez and Marquinhos at the end of the season, new shooters may be needed.
Wagner’s wide options have been severely limited in recent games with Przemyslaw Placheta injured and the aforementioned names potentially gone and needing to be replaced this summer.
