Liverpool recorded their fifth consecutive Premier League win with a 3-1 win over West Ham United at Anfield.
Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota scored as the Reds remained on the trail of leaders Manchester City at the start of the season.
Liverpool started the match slowly and were lucky not to fall behind. In the seventh minute, Reds goalkeeper Alisson Becker made a superb save to parry Tomas Soucek’s header before Michail Antonio nodded home the visitors a minute later.
Klopp’s men then found rhythm and were awarded a penalty when Salah was brought down in the penalty area by Hammers defender Nayef Aguerd.
Salah stepped up and scored his penalty, giving Liverpool the lead. The hosts should have increased their lead, with Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister and Salah all missing decent chances.
And the Reds were rightly punished in the 42nd minute when Jarrod Bown beat Virgil van Dijk to the ball and sent a diving header into the far corner.
Liverpool thought they had regained the lead on the stroke of half-time when Curtis Jones held and finished Dominic Szoboszlai’s pass, but the midfielder was ruled offside.
Nunez missed a great opportunity in the 7th minute of the second half when his shot went just wide.
The Reds then received a sad reminder when Bowen nodded into Alisson’s arms from a corner.
But Nunez would soon find the net on the hour mark when Alexis Mac Allister played an era-perfect ball and the Uruguay international expertly volleyed a volley into the corner.
Liverpool continued to dominate and got their reward with five minutes remaining. Van Dijk headed a corner wide of goal, allowing substitute Jota to sweep into the net from close range.
Here’s how we rated Liverpool’s players. 1. LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND – SEPTEMBER 24: Darwin Nunez of Liverpool celebrates after scoring the team’s second goal during the Premier League match between Liverpool FC and West Ham United at Anfield on September 24, 2023 in Liverpool, England.
2. Alisson Becker – 7
Made a superb save from Soucek but couldn’t repeat the feat with Bowen’s header.
3. Joe Gomez-8
Much better in the first half than against Wolves, with a constant outlet on the wing and calm when he moves to the centre. He also seems defensive.
Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota scored as the Reds remain hot on the heels of league leaders Manchester City in the early stages of the season.
Liverpool started the match slowly and were lucky not to fall behind. In the seventh minute, Reds goalkeeper Alisson Becker made a brilliant save to deny Tomas Soucek’s header before Michail Antonio nodded wide for the visitors just a minute later. 5. Virgil van Dijk – 6.5
Caught by surprise on Bowen’s equalizer. It seems different when he managed to overcome the brawl with Antonio and a header provided the assist for Jota’s goal.
6. Andy Robertson-7
Throughout the collision he tried to move forward as much as possible. Effort displayed.
7. Dominiz Szoboszlai – 7
The passage again attracted attention as he acted as conductor in the engine room. But maybe I’m disappointed that both shots on goal hit the wall.
8th. Alexis MacAllister-7
In the first half he gave the ball away several times in dangerous areas and shot wide. He improved significantly after the break, seeing more of the ball and assisting Nunez’s goal with a perfect pass over the top.
Substituted in the 87th minute.

Liverpool started the match slowly and were lucky not to fall behind. In the seventh minute, Reds goalkeeper Alisson Becker made a brilliant save to deny Tomas Soucek’s header before Michail Antonio nodded wide for the visitors just a minute later.
9. Curtis Jones-8
He took care of the ball and tried to make things happen, although he was unlucky to see his goal disallowed at the end of the first half.
The pressure was relentless in the second period and a deflected attempt forced the West Ham goalkeeper to make a save. Substituted in the 77th minute.
10. Mo Salah – 7
Showed his composure from the penalty spot and caused West Ham problems in the first half. Similar in the second half and would have had an assist if Nunez hadn’t shot wide. 11. Luis Diaz-7
It often put West Ham on the back foot, but the end product was sometimes simply lacking. Another nice afternoon of work.
12. Darwin Nunez – 8
He helped Salah pass the ball and won the penalty for the first goal. He wasted a few big chances but converted Liverpool’s second chance with a brilliant opening goal.
After that, my confidence grew. Substituted in the 81st minute.
