Ibrahima Konate appears to be in good form as he has recovered from a recent hamstring injury and is using the break to improve his fitness in Paris.
Konaté missed Liverpool’s final two games before the international break in September due to injury, but was initially called up to the France squad.
However, despite Didier Deschamps’ optimism, the central defender was quickly replaced by Jean-Clair Tobido, who had “not recovered sufficiently”.
He still returned to France for a mid-season vacation in Paris, where he took stock of his physical form on Saturday.
On his Instagram Story, Konate shared a short video during a run in which he hinted that he was about to train with Liverpool again.
The Reds will not report to the AXA training center until the end of next week. Their next match is a trip to Wolves in the Premier League on September 16.
Hopes of Konate’s involvement at Molineux could have increased as Klopp had already said his number 5 was expected after the break.
Konate’s direct return to the starting XI depends on his reaction after returning to training.
However, Virgil van Dijk’s absence could increase his chances of making the squad, with the captain suspended for another match following the reaction to his red card against Newcastle.
Joe Gomez and Joel Matip came on before half-time in the 3-0 win over Aston Villa, with Klopp heaping praise on his replacement centre-backs.
“Both central defenders played an exceptional game – with different tasks, to be honest,” said the coach.
They could therefore hold out against Wolves before the return of normal order in the following matches.
