A full stadium cheered the 26-year-old Liverpool player’s performance for his country last night.

The Colombian public paid tribute to Luis Diaz for his performance last night against Venezuela.

Diaz played 88 minutes in the Cafeteros’ 1-0 win, which took place in Barranquilla, the Liverpool star’s hometown.

Although he was not involved in the only goal of the match, El Espectador reported that fans at the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Melendez were in no doubt who was the man of the match.

Diaz was reportedly cheered by “the whole stadium” as he ensured Colombia began their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with a victory.

The newspaper described him as the ‘big figure’ in the game and it was a good night for the 26-year-old. MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES

After missing the World Cup in Qatar last year, Diaz and Colombia will be desperate to qualify for the next edition.

At this point, the Liverpool striker will be 29 years old and still in great shape.

There are other talented players around him, but it’s safe to assume that Diaz will still be the face of his team by the start of the tournament.

Let’s hope he gets over it after three successful years at Liverpool. It’s been a bit of a stopover for him since his £50m move in 2022. But now that the injuries are behind him, hopefully, Diaz has started this season very well.

Two goals in their first two Premier League games gave way to successive goalless draws. However, because he was substituted at the start of the match against Newcastle, he didn’t have many chances to get on the scoresheet.

In fact, Diaz is still trying to recover from such a devastating injury last season. In this sense, the more football he puts in his legs, the better he is.

Maybe the former Portoman player didn’t score yesterday, but it’s nice to know that he thrilled the fans.

In essence, Diaz is a player who lives solely to get fans out of their seats. Whether in Liverpool or at home in Colombia, he is wonderful to see.
