Colorado Avalanche Return 19-Year-Old Centreman Calum Ritchie to Oshawa Generals for 2024-25 Season
The Colorado Avalanche announced on Wednesday that 19-year-old centreman Calum Ritchie has been reassigned to the Oshawa Generals for the 2024-25 season. Ritchie, who made a brief but memorable stint with the Avalanche, skated in seven NHL games, notching his first career goal on October 14th against the New York Islanders.
Ritchie, selected by Colorado with the 27th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, will now rejoin an Oshawa Generals team that has had a balanced start to the season with a 5-5-1-0 record. The Oakville, Ontario native was instrumental in leading the Generals to an Eastern Conference title last season, tallying an impressive 80 points (28 goals, 52 assists) across 50 regular-season games. He continued his strong performance in the playoffs, adding 30 points (8 goals, 22 assists) in 21 postseason appearances.
The Generals originally picked Ritchie with the second overall selection in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection, and he has been a dominant force ever since, amassing 184 points (71 goals, 113 assists) over 174 regular-season games in his OHL career.
Ritchie’s return to Oshawa comes at a crucial time, as the Generals look to build momentum in the early part of their season. The team is scheduled to face the Niagara IceDogs on Thursday night before heading to Kingston on Friday to take on the Frontenacs. With Ritchie back in the lineup, Oshawa will be hoping his NHL experience can provide a spark as they aim to climb the standings.
Ritchie’s development continues to be closely watched, and his brief taste of the NHL will surely add to his growth as a future star in the league.
