“Premier League Launches New X Account to Clarify VAR Decisions in Real-Time for 2024/25 Season”

This is another attempt to make VAR more palatable to fans

The Premier League has introduced a new account on X (formerly Twitter) to clarify VAR decisions during the 2024/25 season, aiming to make the technology more acceptable to fans. Announced on Tuesday, the account will provide near-real-time updates and explanations on refereeing and operational matters for each match, according to the Premier League.

The platform will offer “factual explanations” regarding on-field refereeing decisions and the role of VAR, including how technology influences these outcomes. This initiative comes in response to FIFA’s restriction on broadcasting VAR audio live on television. Posts will be managed directly from the Premier League’s Match Centre at Stockley Park, London, which serves as the operational hub, connecting all 20 league stadiums, the VAR centre, and global broadcasters.
