Tottenham and Manchester United are competing in a transfer battle valued between £45 million and £50 million.

A Premier League team has reportedly reduced their asking price for a star striker, which could enhance Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United’s chances of securing the player this summer. According to journalist Ben Jacobs, this price reduction might pave the way for a significant transfer before the window closes.

Brentford’s Ivan Toney, who has been impressive for his club, is now attracting interest from several top teams. Tottenham, in particular, is eager to strengthen their attack under new manager Ange Postecoglou and is considering a formal offer for the England international.

Initially priced at £80 million, Brentford has now adjusted their valuation to around £45-£50 million due to a lack of serious interest at the higher figure. This adjustment could make Toney more accessible for Tottenham and Manchester United, though Tottenham might need to first offload Brazilian forward Richarlison to make room for a new signing.

Additionally, Toney is reportedly open to the possibility of running down his contract and leaving on a free transfer next summer, which puts pressure on Brentford to sell now rather than risk losing him for nothing. This situation has prompted the club to lower their asking price.

Manchester United, despite recently signing Joshua Zirkzee and having Rasmus Hojlund, is also still in the mix. Jacobs suggests that both clubs are ones to watch in the coming weeks. With the transfer window in full swing, Tottenham appears well-positioned to make a move for Toney, given the reduced price and their pressing need for a new striker.
