Rashford Could Beat Bolt in a 20-Yard Sprint, Says Legendary Sprinter
In a surprising revelation, legendary sprinter Usain Bolt has claimed that Manchester United star Marcus Rashford could outpace him in a 20-yard sprint. Despite not being among the fastest Premier League players, Rashford’s acceleration has earned praise from Bolt and fans alike.
Bolt, an eight-time Olympic gold medalist and one of the most famous athletes of all time, mentioned Rashford’s impressive burst of speed during a conversation with former Premier League striker-turned-pundit Darren Bent. He stated, “Rashford is quick out of the block, that is what he does. He has that burst of speed but after that, I told him, you could probably get me in 20 yards. But after that, it is over!”
Bolt’s recognition of Rashford’s acceleration is significant, considering the Jamaican sprinter’s own world record-setting speed. Bolt set the current 100m world record with a time of 9.58 seconds in Berlin in 2009. However, he admitted that Rashford’s acceleration over short distances could give the footballer an edge.
Rashford, who has been a standout player for Manchester United since his emergence, is known for his lightning pace on the field. Despite criticisms of his goal-scoring consistency, his speed remains undeniable.
Bolt’s admiration for Rashford extends beyond speed. A lifelong Manchester United fan, Bolt has tried to transition to professional football after retiring from sprinting. He trained with Norwegian side Stromsgodset and Australian team Central Coast Mariners, scoring twice in a friendly for the latter. Although he eventually gave up on his dream of becoming a professional footballer, his love for the game and the club remains strong. Bolt frequently visits Manchester United’s training base and maintains relationships with the players.
Ahead of Soccer Aid in 2023 at Old Trafford, the 36-year-old sprinter discussed his love for Manchester United and his views on Premier League footballers’ speed with talkSPORT. When asked about his statement regarding Rashford, Bolt affirmed his belief in the footballer’s short-distance speed, much to Darren Bent’s surprise.
Reflecting on his connections with Manchester United players, Bolt shared, “Most of the guys I will see them out sometimes because I’m always in Manchester because one of my friends is there. So, I go there a lot, I hang out so I get to see the guys and I get to go to the games. I do talk to them.”
While a race between Bolt and Rashford has yet to happen, the sprinter’s acknowledgment of Rashford’s acceleration adds another layer to the footballer’s growing reputation as one of the quickest players on the field.
