Eagles disappointed by display, Saints speedster set for scans
The Eagles have lamented their execution after a heavy loss to the Saints
West Coast suffered a 72-point defeat to St Kilda, failing to record a single tackle inside their forward 50, much to the frustration of interim coach Jarrad Schofield. The Eagles, missing key players Elliot Yeo, Liam Duggan, Jeremy McGovern, and Jake Waterman, did not meet any of their pre-game benchmarks, while the Saints managed 23 tackles in their forward line.
Schofield noted that the numbers were against them from the start, and despite an early effort, their game plan fell apart, especially in the second half. He praised the backline for their resilience, despite the ball frequently returning with interest from St Kilda, who kicked five goals from these opportunities. Schofield expressed disappointment in the defensive efforts of the midfielders and forwards, and lamented the lack of tackles in their forward 50.
However, Schofield highlighted some positives, such as the performances of half-back flankers Reuben Ginbey and Jayden Hunt, and Jack Williams’ second three-goal game at the AFL level. He emphasized that the team is learning more about their list, giving opportunities to players who have excelled in the WAFL, with Ginbey showing significant growth after being moved to half-back.
