About Joshua Dobbs and DTR; on the Browns, defense and special teams – Terry Pluto’s postgame scribbles

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Scribbled in my notebook after the Browns’ 13-10 victory over Pittsburgh on Sunday:

1. The Browns are 7-3 and have won games with three different QBs. They are 7-3 with Deshaun Watson 4-1, P.J.

Walker is 2:1 and Dorian Thompson-Robinson (DTR) is 1:1. Yes, Watson was credited with the win in Indianapolis, but he started and only threw five passes.

NFL playoff seeding comes into focus after Week 11, including for the Browns in the AFC

The Cleveland Browns won once again in an ugly game that ended at the finish line. Winning is winning in the NFL and it’s very difficult to do that on a regular basis.

While Browns fans (myself included) are very concerned about the team’s chances of making noise in the NFL playoffs with their quarterback play, achieving that goal is the first step.

Cleveland has been clinging to a playoff spot for months at this point and every win brings them closer to securing it.

The current AFC playoff photo shows a collection of teams and a group of teams within two playoff games:

With the Baltimore Ravens leading the AFC North, the Browns are as high as they can be at this point.

As the playoff race continues, teams ahead by more than two games aren’t really interesting.

Anything can happen, but there are currently only two teams in the AFC that aren’t at least marginally in the playoffs.
NFC, on the other hand, looks very different:

With only six teams in the conference with winning records, and only one at .500, the NFC is currently a have-not conference.

For Cleveland, the Los Angeles Rams are still in the playoff hunt, but just at 4-6 as the two teams face off in Week 13 in Los Angeles.

The only other NFC team on the Browns’ schedule is the 3-8 Chicago Bears.

Cleveland’s playoff betting odds have gone from -250 before its Week 11 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers to -475 currently.
