Setting record has become rather standard for Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, but it doesn’t make the act any less incredible when he achieves it.
Well, Jackson is about to set another distinctive NFL mark.
The 26-year-old is just 52 rushing yards away from passing Randall Cunningham for fourth among all signal-callers in NFL history (h/t Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk).
Jackson currently has 4,877 rushing yards for his career.
Only three quarterbacks are ahead of Cunningham on that list: Michael Vick, Cam Newton and Russell Wilson.
It seems fairly safe to say that Jackson will surpass all of them at some point, and given that he is averaging 48.9 rushing yards per game this season, he stands a great chance of moving past Cunningham on the all-time list when the Ravens battle the Cleveland Browns this Sunday.
On the season overall, Jackson has totaled 440 yards and five touchdowns on the ground while logging 5.2 yards per carry.
Jackson, who played his collegiate football at the University of Louisville, was selected by Baltimore with the 32nd overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.
He supplanted Joe Flacco as the Ravens’ starting quarterback midway through his rookie campaign and has been under center ever since, making a couple of trips to the Pro Bowl and earning a First-Team All-Pro selection.
Lamar Jackson also won an MVP award in 2019 after throwing for 3,127 yards, 36 touchdowns (which led the league) and six interceptions while completing 66.1 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 113.3.
Additionally, he racked up 1,206 yards and seven scores as a rusher.
The Pompano Beach, Fl. native isn’t quite the same runner he was four years ago, but he remains one of the league’s most lethal dual threats.
