“Not good enough”: Vincent Kompany’s categorical response to the miserable…

The Clarets suffered their seventh defeat in their opening nine games on Saturday with a miserable 3-0 loss to Brentford.
This leaves Kompany’s men in the bottom three places with just four points.

Asked whether his team has the resilience to respond, Kompany said: “Personally, I have a very strong feeling about moments like this. They define you as a person. Not just in football, but in life in general.

“You’re at your highest level and you’re achieving success and you’re making everything go for you, can you still be humble? Can you still work hard? Can you still be together?

“When you’re in difficulty, and I’m not saying we’re at our lowest level, but it’s a tough game, it’s a tough day for us, can we still be resilient?

Can we still be together? You can do what’s good for the team and face the truth, something that’s very important to me.

“It’s nothing I would ever hide from, because throughout my career and my life, these have been the most precious moments.

BRENTFORD, ENGLAND – OCTOBER 21: Vincent Kompany, manager of Burnley, looks on before the Premier League match between Brentford FC and Burnley FC at Gtech Community Stadium on October 21, 2023 in Brentford, England.

“We experienced it last season, so this team – at least since I’ve been here – doesn’t have a journey that starts with the Premier League.

“We have been in the Championship and had so many moments, so the resilience of this team has already been proven, but this is a different level and we need to improve.”

Kompany previously claimed his side were on the right track despite a difficult start to the season.

Asked if the defeat to Brentford was a step backwards or just an incident, Kompany replied: “I think we will find out.

“It’s a little difficult to put things in that context at the moment, but it’s one of those things that you have to deal with.

When that happens, you have to learn from it and take more from it than just “we lost here and we’re disappointed.” No, you have to get more out of these things.

“We have always been a group that responds to moments like this and we must do so again. There is absolutely no other way.”
