Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing Juan Foyth, a player who previously played for Tottenham Hotspur.
The spurs are having an excellent season and really have no reason to look back on the players they let go. However, Foyth has made excellent progress since leaving Tottenham and he could now secure a costly move to Barcelona in the near future.
Juan Foyth could join Barcelona just two years after leaving Tottenham signed Juan Foyth from Estudiantes while he was still a teenager in 2017.
The Argentinian was then considered by many to be a great talent. He had all the qualities to succeed at the highest level, but his time at Spurs wasn’t great.Foyth played just 32 senior games for Tottenham during his time there.
After failing to impress under either Mauricio Pochettino or Jose Mourinho, he was loaned out to Villareal in 2020.The Argentine had an excellent season at El Madrigal, where he won the Europa League under Unai Emery in his first season there.
Emery decided to sign Foyth on a permanent contract in 2021 and Tottenham agreed to sell him for just £12.8 million, making a profit of £4.8 million.
Now, after two more brilliant seasons at Villarreal, Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez, who wanted to sign him this summer, wants to sign him in one of the next two transfer windows, reports ESPN.
It was claimed that Villarreal demanded payment of his full £47m release clause over the summer. Barca now expect the Yellow Submarine to be “more open to offers” in the future.
Foyth could have been a star at Spurs Juan Foyth’s performances at Villarreal and interest from Barcelona now show he is a ‘brilliant’ defender.
At just 25 years old, the Argentine has been really good in Spain over the last three years, and one wonders why he hasn’t done the same at Spurs. Perhaps the lack of opportunities in north London ruined any chance he had of establishing himself at Tottenham, which is a shame as it would have saved him millions.
However, both sides are now happy with the situation they find themselves in and that can only be a good thing.
