News Flash: A 16-year-old boy from Southwick has been charged

Boy, 16, charged with murder after stabbing in Brighton.

A 16-year-old Southwick teen has been charged with murder after 17-year-old Mustafa Momand was stabbed to death in Queen’s Road, Brighton, last Thursday.

Police continue to search for the weapon used, which has not been traced.Sussex Police said:

“The Crown Prosecution Service this evening (Monday 9 October) authorized a murder charge against a 16-year-old boy from Southwick.

“The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, remains in custody and will appear at Brighton Children’s Court on Tuesday morning (October 10).

“It follows the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Mustafa Momand, in Queen’s Road, Brighton, at around 5pm on Thursday 5 October.  “The suspect was arrested in the Moulsecoomb area later that evening.”

Mustafa Momand, Detective Chief Inspector Alex Campbell, lead investigating officer, said:

Our thoughts are with the victim’s family, who continue to be supported by officers at this difficult time.

“This is a rapidly progressing investigation and our efforts to establish the exact circumstances of what happened that day continue.

“We know that a weapon – possibly a knife – was used in the attack and, despite extensive searches of the area, we have not yet been able to locate it.

“I would therefore ask anyone near Queens Road or The Avenue, Moulsecoomb, to check their gardens, dumpsters or outbuildings for any signs of an abandoned weapon and if you see anything please report it to us immediately.”

Sussex Police added that information can be reported online or by calling 101 quoting Operation Ash, or in an emergency by calling 999.
