Paddy Dow, a midfielder for Carlton, has emerged as the newest player looking for a transfer during this trade period.
The young Blues onballer is said to have submitted a request to join St. Kilda.
Given his contract expiration and his VFL performance, which wasn’t good enough to guarantee a spot in Michael Voss’ best 22-man side this season, Dow’s future at Princes Park has sparked a lot of speculation.
The Blues announced new deals for three players earlier this week and cut another three from their list in the wake of the club’s elimination from the finals, leaving the 23-year-old Carlton player unsigned for 2024.
Prior to the start of the trade period on Monday, St. Kilda and Sydney were reportedly interested in Dow.
St. Kilda is now believed to have won the race for the former top three draft picks.
After six years with the team, Dow has requested a trade to St. Kilda, according to Riley Beveridge of AFL . com . au.
Dow is looking to end his time wearing the navy blue.
Sydney’s interest in Dow has decreased as the New South Wales team gets ready to sign Taylor Adams from Collingwood this offseason after already bringing in Melbourne midfielder James Jordon through free agency.
Dow has appeared in 73 games for Carlton, 10 of which came in the second half of this season as the Blues struggled with numerous midfield setbacks.
Prior to his mid-season recall under Voss, he would rank among the top players in the VFL, averaging 31 points for disposals, 8 points for clearances, and 4 points for tackles per game at the state league level.
As Saints coach Ross Lyon looks to strengthen his midfield group, a move to Moorabbin will probably give Dow a better chance to play a full season at the senior level.
Prior to Wednesday, October 18, the trade period’s deadline, the Saints and Blues will now try to broker a deal over the next ten days.
While Dow is unsigned, the Saints have the option of signing the midfielder through the Pre-Season Draft; however, in a likely demonstration of good faith, they will try to negotiate a trade with Carlton.
