Liverpool must sign two players who ‘can win the Champions League’

Former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant believes the signings of Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram will make Jurgen Klopp’s side Champions League contenders next season.

Both midfielders were linked with a move to Anfield in the summer and have been backed to join in the next window.

Klopp made a major overhaul to his midfield before the start of this season. He let Jordan Henderson and Fabinho leave after Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were released at the end of their contracts.

He quickly brought in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai before later adding Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.

However, Pennant believes more work is still needed to ensure Liverpool compete for major honours.

Borussia Monchengladbach star Kone and Nice star Thuram, both 22, are considered two of the rising stars of Europe’s midfield.

Pennant is a big fan of both and believes they would make the necessary improvements to help the Reds win the Champions League for a seventh time.

Liverpool transfer news: Khephren Thuram was also linked with the Reds this summer

Pennant told Lucky Block: “I would like to see Liverpool sign a real enforcer in January. For me, this player would be Manu Koné.

I think he would make a great number six and encourage Mac Allister to move forward.

“Kone would be the icing on the cake, as would Khephren Thuram.

I’ve always been a big fan of him. He might not play as a 6, but it could work. If we can get them in January, then we’re looking at a boss midfield!

“Those two could help Liverpool win the Champions League. If Kone and Thuram were there, Liverpool’s midfield could be among the best.

If you add the five forwards and players like Virgil [van Dijk], Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and Alisson in defense, it’s an incredible team.
