Everton have six first-team players who could end up leaving on a free transfer next summer if they are not careful and this, combined with financial issues emphasise that problems are mounting for the Premier League club.
It looked like Everton were turning things around this season as they picked up two wins against Brentford in the Premier League and Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup.
The mood dropped again as they lost to Luton at Goodison Park last weekend and now their upcoming match against Bournemouth is key.
Due to their relegation battle and the recent financial issues, as well as a possible takeover, the six players available to leave on a free transfer next summer could be a huge blow.
Six Everton players who’s contract expires in the summer
The squad was improved in the summer transfer window just gone, but probably not as much as Sean Dyche would have wanted.
The six Everton players who could leave the club for free at the end of the 2023/24 season following the expiry of their current contracts are:
Not all of these players are key. Arguably Dele Alli, Andy Lonergan and Andre Gomes are three who Everton would be happy to have off the wage bill.
However, Ashley Young, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Idrissa Gueye have featured in all seven games this season and have been key starting players for Dyche. Midfielder Doucoure is actually leading the goalscoring chants at the Toffees this season with two.
Hopefully, Everton will be able to sort out the contracts of these three players should they continue to be key for the Toffees this season.
No doubt the club being relegated would cause even more issues for the club and therefore sorting out contracts of their stars may have to wait until later in the season.
