Robbie Earle has hinted he was disappointed that Alisson was on the losing side when Liverpool were beaten by Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, insisting the Brazilian made a series of outstanding saves.
Earle spoke on The 2 Robbies podcast after the Reds goalkeeper managed to repel almost all of Spurs’ attacks at one point in the match.
Alisson was at his best again for Liverpool this weekend.
Naturally, most of the post-match talk was about the controversial decisions that went against Jurgen Klopp’s team.
As reported by BBC Sport, PGMOL confirmed that they mistakenly disallowed Luis Diaz’s goal in the first half.
And you would understand if Liverpool fans were complaining about the red cards shown to both Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota.
Alisson magnificent in Liverpool’s defeat
Unsurprisingly, the Reds played with fewer players on the pitch for much of the match, ultimately leaving Alisson with plenty to do. And he took a big step forward and made some excellent stops.
Certainly Robbie Earle thought Alisson deserved huge credit and was unlucky to find himself on the losing side.
“Alisson, by the way, made two or three great saves that many goalkeepers in the league don’t come close to,” he told The 2 Robbies.
“His form recently; Newcastle away, brilliant save by Almiron; Another great save last weekend.
He is strong again, at the top of his game, just like the team. I was so disappointed for Liverpool.”
The Reds will probably be wondering what impact this result will have on their season
Initially it took a special first goal to beat Alisson. And obviously the match was decided by an own goal by Joel Matip against which the goalkeeper could do nothing.
Liverpool fans will understandably be concerned about the implications of this result. With Manchester City as strong as they currently are, it will be difficult for any other team to catch them this year.
If the Reds aren’t good enough, it’s justified. But fans are entitled to look at the end of season table and think they should still have three points after what happened in north London.
Alan Shearer upset by Liverpool player’s statement after 2-1 defeat to Tottenham
Alan Shearer has praised Jurgen Klopp for the way the Liverpool manager responded to the VAR controversy surrounding the Reds’ 2-1 defeat to Tottenham.
Speaking on The Rest is Football, the pundit praised the Anfield boss for the way he handled Saturday’s storm, with Klopp speaking highly of the whole incident.
A Luis Diaz goal was wrongly disallowed by VAR and Klopp’s reaction was praised by many fans and pundits, including Shearer.
Shearer said of Klopp’s comments after Liverpool’s defeat to Tottenham: “I thought Jurgen spoke very well after the game, you know.”
“You can imagine how angry and seething he was. You can imagine him going into the locker room, but I thought he really took his advice after the game and was very well spoken.
“And he’ll probably have a better reaction than if he went out and attacked everyone, VAR and everything else. I thought he was really measured and was impressed with himself after the game .”
Klopp should have taken tougher action after Liverpool injustice
Klopp is no stranger to expressing his opinion and the Liverpool manager could easily have ranted for hours about what happened that Saturday.
The German coach has lost several times in the past due to several incidents at Liverpool, but Klopp spoke well this weekend about the injustice done to the Reds.
Indeed, Klopp spoke with honesty and passion and it is no wonder Shearer is impressed with what they heard from the Anfield boss.
