“Bought for a lot of money” – The expert is still referring to the large sum paid to Tottenham last year, not to the player’s biggest fan

With two goals and an assist in five games, former Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn may have good stats since joining Ajax this season, but he is still not a darling of the Dutch media.

The Amsterdam side were beaten 3-1 by Twente this weekend, and while Wim Kieft talks about the team’s problems, there is some criticism of the 25-year-old.

Citing Soccer News, the pundit points out that Ajax paid Tottenham a good sum of money for the signing, and perhaps Bergwijn should take some responsibility instead of complaining about others.

“But then Maurice Steijn and Bergwijn shout that something is missing in the effort. These guys have no idea what to do.

On the one hand, because they are not good footballers (which both criticized), on the other hand, they don’t even know how Ajax wants to play football,” Kieft said.

“Bergwijn shouts after the match that he is done and wants to see passion. But he doesn’t touch a ball himself, man! It was bought for so much money…

You’re not going to laugh at these guys and abandon them, are you? The big farewell began at Ajax.

In January 2020, Tottenham spent €20 million to sign Bergwijn from PSV. During his time with Spurs, he scored eight goals and ten assists in 83 appearances.

The winger barely played in his final season in London, but he was still highly regarded in the Netherlands.

This is why Ajax spent more than 31 million euros to recruit him last year. This season they made him their captain and that only raises expectations for him, even if the criticism from the local media is still there.

“I love his energy” – Rio Ferdinand praises Tottenham Hotspur player – Spurs Web – Tottenham Hotspur Football News.

After his starring role in Tottenham Hotspur’s dramatic win over Sheffield United last weekend, sentiment appears to be turning in Richarlison’s favor.

Now, Rio Ferdinand has added his voice to the growing list of critics of the Brazilian striker.

It hasn’t been easy for Richarlison since moving to Tottenham last summer. The former Everton player struggled with form last season and suffered some injury problems which hampered his progress.

At the end of the 2022/23 season, Richarlison had scored just three goals for Spurs, with just one coming in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

Richarlison has mainly taken charge of Tottenham since Harry Kane’s departure, but it looked like he might lose his place to Heung-min Son after the South Korean scored a hat-trick before the international break.

During that international break, Richarlison spoke about his mental health problems and his desire to receive psychiatric help upon his return to London.

The Brazilian star later returned to the club and was an integral part of the Spurs who managed to beat Sheffield United at the weekend. He contributed a goal and an assist in injury time to secure a 2-1 victory.

Speaking about Richarlison’s situation and his recent performances, Rio Ferdinand praised the Tottenham striker.

He told his YouTube channel: “I have to be honest, I appreciate it. I really like him, I like his energy. I felt sorry for him the other day when he told me he wanted to see a psychiatrist to help him deal with the situation he currently finds himself in.

But I don’t think anyone knows what’s going on behind the scenes, and I hope they get it right.

“But I like him as a player. I remember talking to Carlo Ancelotti about him when he had him at Everton and he said this boy was going to play for a top team;

A Champions League team and he will be one of the best players of all time because he is very good. [With] Harry Kane leaving, [Richarlison] could be the biggest benefactor.

It’s great to see so many people supporting Richarlison now and praising his work in the latest game, but it’s funny how quickly people change their minds.

At the beginning of this season, and throughout last season, Richarlison was criticized so harshly.

It just goes to show that one good performance can completely change things.
