‘Unlucky’ – Brother thinks Burnley player will be out for several months, dream will have to wait.
On 30 August, Burnley’s Hjalmar Ekdal made his first appearance of the season in his side’s 1–0 win over Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup.
The centre-back had to be stretchered off with a knee injury and Vincent Kompany admitted the 24-year-old’s setback was very serious.
Fotbollskanalen explains that the Sweden international has joined the national team camp for the current international break. They further specify that the Burnley player will be absent for “several months”.
His brother Albin had long dreamed of playing alongside the Clarets defender in the national team.
Speaking to Fotbollskanalen, the current Spezia midfielder said his dream will not come true during the next two international breaks in October and November.
“I don’t know exactly what his rehabilitation looks like, but a not-so-crazy guess is that he won’t be able to be in [Sweden] for the next meetings,” he said.
Albin, 34, says he will have to wait until March 2024 to potentially play for Sweden with the Burnley player.
“He pulled his knee a little. Unfortunately, it looks like it will take until next year [to play together] anyway,” Albin explained.
“It’s bad luck for him to suffer this injury. And I’m not getting any younger. So I’m going to talk to Janne [Andersson, the national team manager] so he can resolve at least one game.
In January, Burnley signed Hjalmar from Djurgårdens IF, giving him a four-and-a-half year contract. Since then, he has completed ten missions.
