James Pearce indicates that Liverpool is nearing a long-term agreement as the negotiations move forward.

This update comes courtesy of The Athletic’s James Pearce, with the Greece international keen to put a two-year extension to his current contract on paper as negotiations progress well.

This follows a series of changes to the squad over the summer, which saw the departures of James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, and Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch as new players.

While there is no doubt that Andy Robertson is the first choice left back in Jurgen Klopp’s team, it is a deal that we at Empire of the Kop have no problem supporting.

As well as his outstanding penalty contribution in the FA Cup win over Chelsea at Wembley, the former Olympiacos player has been an excellent back-up option since his move to English football – arguably the premier second-choice full-back in the Premier League League.

We wish many more years of success at Anfield for the man nicknamed the ‘Greek Scouser’.
