American football tight end Dalton Schultz acknowledges his gratitude for the Houston Texans.
Having spent half a decade with the Dallas Cowboys, Schultz’s move to the Texans has been equated not only to a geographic move, but also a major change in team culture.n
His lecture on the Pat McAfee Show vividly paints a picture of the contrasting environment between the Texans and the Cowboys.
He explained that the players can focus. just about the game and doing their jobs without distraction.
“The focus is just the football,” Schultz said of the game. in Houston.
“When I go back and talk to some people about the Cowboys’ practice room and game day, describe some of the interactions and things you see every day, it surprises a lot of people.
They say, ‘Damn, this is really happening. do you think this is normal and then you end up in a place like this?
“The Dallas Cowboys offer tours of their team facilities to fans and visitors, even during practices.
While this openness creates an intimate connection with their devoted fan base, it also hurts the players’ workspace.\ n
Schultz says, “People literally go on tours when you get to the weight room.”
The former Cowboys player further described experiencing a zoo in Dallas where spectators watched players work out through a one-way mirror.
They have a one-way mirror for people. It’s literally a zoo,” he said. Schultz on Dallas. “
People are banging on glass to alert people when they’re cleaning. or whatever.
It’s different. That’s the brand that they’ve built, that’s what Jerry Jones likes,
that’s the way they run things, and there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s just you don’t realize how many eyeballs and how much that can maybe distract from stuff in the locker room being in the facility,
until you go somewhere else and you’re like, ‘Holy crap, there’s none of that.’
”Dalton Schultz: In Houston we’re focused on football, in Dallas it was a zoo.
However, his time with the Houston Texans diverges from his previous experiences significantly, allowing Schultz to adapt to a more private training environment.
The Texans place an emphasis on privacy and uninterrupted workflow that does not give America open access to watch them train, a strategy which Schultz appreciatively points out.Related:
