Kevin Diks hasn’t played a single Bundesliga minute yet, but he’s already making history.
The 28-year-old defender has officially joined Borussia Mönchengladbach, and when he finally makes his debut, he’ll become the first-ever Indonesian international to play in the Bundesliga. That alone has sparked excitement across both Germany and Southeast Asia.
After a successful run in Denmark, where he won a domestic double with Copenhagen, Diks says the move to Germany marks the “next level” in his career. “It’s a more competitive league, a bigger stage,” he told kicker. “Here I can play at the highest level.”
His career journey has been anything but smooth. At just 19, he left Vitesse for Fiorentina in Italy—something he now admits may have been a premature move. Injuries and loan spells followed, derailing his early promise.
But Copenhagen changed everything. “It was probably the best decision of my life,” said Diks, who rediscovered his form and confidence there.
Now in Gladbach, Diks is already feeling at home. “From day one, I felt the trust. The club already feels like family.”
Though a muscle injury will delay his pre-season involvement, the coaching staff views him as a valuable asset—capable of playing anywhere across the back line or even as a defensive midfielder.
Most naturally, though, he sees himself as a central defender.
As Borussia Mönchengladbach reshapes for the new season, fans will be eager to see how this trailblazing signing fitsinto the picture.
