**New Steelers WR DK Metcalf Talks Leadership, Mindset at Minicamp: “I’m Here to Set the Tone”**
**PITTSBURGH, Pa. — (June 8, 2025)**
DK Metcalf may be in a new uniform, but his approach remains the same: work hard, speak with purpose, and lead by example. The newly acquired Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver met with media after day two of mandatory minicamp and made it clear — he’s not just in town to catch passes.
He’s here to **lead**.
### “I’m Not a Yeller. I’m a Worker.”
When asked about his leadership style, Metcalf didn’t hesitate.
> “I’m not a guy who’s going to scream at everybody. I’m not that rah-rah type. I lead by how I show up every day — how I prepare, how I practice, how I take care of my body. That’s how you build respect.”
The 6’4” star, acquired in a blockbuster trade from the Seattle Seahawks this offseason, brings with him a rare combination of speed, strength, and experience. But in Pittsburgh, he’s quickly establishing himself as more than a physical presence.
Multiple young receivers have already been seen shadowing Metcalf in drills and off-field sessions, something head coach Mike Tomlin took note of.
> “DK’s presence is being felt already. He doesn’t say much, but when he does, it matters,” Tomlin said. “That’s a powerful kind of leadership.”
### Helping the Young Core
Metcalf made it clear he sees it as his responsibility to help accelerate the growth of Pittsburgh’s young offense — including quarterback Kenny Pickett and second-year wideout Roman Walker, who called Metcalf “a big brother already.”
> “I’ve made mistakes in this league. I’ve learned from vets like Tyler \[Lockett]. Now it’s my turn to pay that forward. I don’t want these young guys to learn the hard way when they don’t have to.”
### A Fresh Start, A Focused Mindset
After a turbulent final year in Seattle filled with injuries, coaching changes, and trade rumors, Metcalf said the move to Pittsburgh has “re-centered” him.
> “This locker room’s different. It’s got grit. It’s got tradition. I’m not trying to be a savior. I’m trying to be a part of something bigger than me.”
Metcalf also noted his offseason training focus has been on flexibility and route precision, aiming to expand his role from deep threat to all-around route-runner.
### What’s Next?
As training camp nears, Metcalf’s chemistry with Kenny Pickett continues to develop — with coaches praising his timing and communication with the young QB.
The Steelers offense, long searching for an alpha at wideout since Antonio Brown’s departure, may finally have one again — and Metcalf is embracing every bit of the responsibility.
> “Leadership isn’t about being loud. It’s about being *real.* I came here to win. And I came here to lead.”
