Tottenham takeover: ‘Active conversations’ are taking place with Daniel Levy

An update has emerged regarding the rumoured attempt by a group of Qatari investors to takeover Tottenham Hotspur, with ESPN’s James Olley revealing whether an imminent sale is on the cards for the North London club.

Middle-East investors keen on Tottenham takeover

While the identity of the investors is unknown, the report confirmed that the interest was coming from a group of private investors rather than the government-backed Qatar Sports Investment (QSI) or Sheikh Jassim.

Controversially, it was explained that even if the consortium is successful in getting a controlling stake in Spurs, they would want Daniel Levy to continue running the club by retaining the Tottenham chairman on a long-term contract.

James Olley provides an update on the attempted Spurs takeover

James Olley has now confirmed that conversations are taking place between Daniel Levy and interested parties, but he revealed that it is unclear at the moment how advanced those talks are.

The journalist stated that we are unlikely to have any imminent news regarding investment into Tottenham but suggested that any new owners may want to bring a new manager through the door.

When asked if a potential Spurs takeover could be bad news for Ange Postecoglou‘s future, Olley told ESPN (as relayed by GiveMeSport): “Well, the answer to that lies in who the owners are going to be. And you know, there are rumours flying around about a sale. We don’t know as yet how far advanced they are.

“We also don’t know who exactly is in the running to buy the club, and clearly, if there is a takeover, and my understanding is there are active conversations around that, then you know, clearly a new owner will put in a new structure, and that way may well include a new head coach.

“Now, you know, it remains to be seen what the time frame is for that. I don’t think it’s anything imminent in terms of a new owner.”

Tottenham takeover could mean changes at the top

If a new consortium does buy a controlling stake at Tottenham, one would imagine that they would be keen to appoint their own people at the top, which means that not just Postecoglou’s, but Johan Lange‘s position at the club might also be under threat.

However, if they decide to retain Levy as chairman to run things, that could mean that we would see continuity in terms of the club structure.

A full buyout of Spurs is unlikely to happen in one go and could be done in phases, which is why this is not something that Postecoglou or other senior figures at the club would be worried about for the time being.
