Kevin Thelwell has questions to answer at Everton after missing out on a £1.6million signing to Tottenham.
With the Friedkins coming in as new owners at Goodison, the Director of Football has come under pressure with his job potentially on the line.
The 51-year-old’s contract is up at the end of the season [Alan Nixon], and he is doing himself little favours to help secure a new deal on Merseyside.
Now Tottenham have completed a transfer after transfer deadline day, the former Wolves employee is certainly under additional pressure.

The transfer business in L4 probably wasn’t good enough to back David Moyes, with only Carlos Alcaraz coming in throughout the winter.
Regardless of that, the Toffees had the opportunity to bring in an excellent young talent which could have eased any frustration over a quiet window.
St Patrick’s Athletic wonderkid Mason Melia was of interest to the Evertonians alongside the likes of Manchester City, Celtic and Bayer Leverkusen [David Sneyd].
In the end, it is Tottenham who have landed the signing of the 17-year-old on a deal worth an initial £1.6million from the Irish outfit.

Given how highly rated the forward is in the League of Ireland, the youngster would have represented an excellent addition on Merseyside.
St Patrick’s Athletic’s Mason Melia to Tottenham for €2 million. Deal can rise to €4m. Pat’s have one 20% sell on & also negotiated a second sell on. Man City tried to sign him last year. Chelsea, Everton, Celtic interested as were Bayer Leverkusen. Story to come on @The42_ie

This is where frustration builds with Thelwell given that a deal hasn’t been completed for Melia who was available for such a small fee.
Realistically that £1.6m would have had little effect on the Toffees finances but they haven’t taken the initiative to complete the deal which ultimately has to be blamed on the Director of Football.
