Furious neighbours try and shut down New Forest glamping site over campers having noisy sex

 

A luxury glamping site in Lymington, New Forest, marketed as a “romantic escape” for couples, is at risk of closure after neighbours raised concerns about noise and disturbances. The Secret Garden Glamping site, which has been operating for four years, consists of two five-metre tents situated behind a residential house. According to complaints lodged with local authorities, residents have endured five months of parties, rows, loud music, and even awkwardly overheard intimate moments from the thin-walled tents.

One disgruntled neighbour, Mel Sims, said she had “no idea” about the glampsite when she bought her property in December 2022. Now, she and her 13-year-old daughter frequently hear “private conversations” and other noises when sitting outside. “This shed here backs onto the yurt, so when it’s the summertime, you can hear everything,” she explained.

 

Other residents have echoed similar frustrations. One neighbour, Daniel Wells, described his family’s discomfort, saying, “We’ve had to close the window to block out the sound of couples engaging in acts of a sexual nature, which the fabric walls of the tents clearly do not contain.” Wells also shared his exasperation with a karaoke machine that blared 1980s hit “Islands in the Stream” repeatedly, leaving them unable to enjoy their own garden.

Further complaints noted late-night loud music, socialising past midnight, and campfire smoke drifting into nearby homes. Neighbours fear the approval of this site could set a precedent for more glamping ventures to pop up in the residential area.

The site’s owner, Liz Feay, had applied for official planning permission to operate the glamping business for five months a year. However, following a local planning committee meeting, her application was recommended for rejection. The New Forest District Council (NFDC) is set to make a final decision on the matter soon.

While previous guests have described their experience at the glampsite as “exceptional” and a “perfect getaway weekend,” nearby residents are calling for an end to what they say is an intrusive and noisy operation in their quiet neighbourhood.
