The AFL trade period is heating up as major player movements and shocking developments emerge. Clayton Oliver, one of the AFL’s biggest stars, finds himself at the center of trade rumors once again, while Essendon’s Jake Stringer could be making a move that few expected.

Rivals Eye Clayton Oliver… Again

For the second consecutive year, Clayton Oliver is reportedly on the radar of several rival clubs as they weigh up potential offers for the Melbourne Demons midfielder. Oliver, a four-time Best and Fairest winner signed through 2030, endured a challenging 2024 season, battling knee and rib injuries along with off-field issues. His performances, although still at times brilliant, were inconsistent.

Geelong has emerged as a key contender, with reports indicating they may consider a move for the star midfielder. However, logistical challenges remain, as the Cats have already committed their first-round pick in a trade for Bailey Smith. Melbourne has previously held firm on Oliver despite trade interest from teams like Adelaide and St Kilda last year, but tension between Oliver and the club has resurfaced.

GWS Shows Interest in Essendon’s Jake Stringer

In a surprising twist, Jake Stringer, currently under contract with Essendon until the end of 2025, has attracted interest from the GWS Giants. Stringer has reportedly expressed a desire for a longer-term deal and greater security. GWS coach Adam Kingsley’s side is exploring their options for the livewire forward.

However, with Stringer having spent all 12 of his AFL seasons in Victoria, a move to Western Sydney would represent a significant lifestyle shift for the 30-year-old and his family. GWS’ interest depends on their available list spots and whether they lose key players during the trade period. Stringer’s future remains uncertain, but he could be open to a move if the right deal is presented.

Collingwood Closes In on Harry Perryman

Collingwood is reportedly set to secure GWS midfielder Harry Perryman, despite a significant offer from Port Adelaide. The 25-year-old has been considering a move after eight seasons and 129 games with GWS, seeking more opportunities as an inside midfielder. Sources close to Perryman suggest he is “all but certain” to join Collingwood in the coming weeks, with the Magpies emerging as the frontrunners.

Peatling Attracts Interest from Seven Clubs

Meanwhile, Adelaide has entered the race to sign GWS midfielder James Peatling, becoming the seventh club to express interest. Peatling had a breakout season in 2024, playing 19 games and significantly increasing his market value. The Crows join a long list of suitors, including Melbourne, the Western Bulldogs, Collingwood, and West Coast. Peatling is expected to make a decision soon, with Adelaide now considered a strong contender for his signature.
