Texas Quarterback Quinn Ewers Practices but Remains ‘Questionable’ for SEC Opener Against Mississippi State

AUSTIN, TX — Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers returned to practice Monday but remains “questionable” for the Longhorns’ SEC opener against Mississippi State on Saturday, according to head coach Steve Sarkisian.

“Quinn practiced today,” Sarkisian said during his Monday press conference. “But if I had to put out an injury report, I’d list him as questionable.”

Ewers, who suffered an oblique strain in the game against UTSA, missed last week’s 51-3 victory over Louisiana-Monroe, where redshirt freshman Arch Manning started in his place. Manning threw for 258 yards and two touchdowns but also had two interceptions in his first collegiate start.

Sarkisian also provided updates on other injured players, mentioning that starting wide receiver DeAndre Moore returned to practice after being hurt in last week’s game.

SEC Injury Reporting Mandates Begin

Starting this season, SEC teams are required to release health status reports for players ahead of games. Sarkisian addressed this new rule during the press conference, adding that the team will follow the necessary protocols for player status updates.

Saturday’s game against Mississippi State is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. and will be broadcast on the SEC Network.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Ewers’ status, the Longhorns remain atop the SEC power rankings, and their defense will play a critical role in securing their first SEC win of the season.
