Fact Check: No, Coca-Cola Didn’t End Sponsorship Deal With Taylor Swift Over Kamala Harris Endorsement

A viral Facebook post from Sept. 16 claimed that Coca-Cola ended its sponsorship deal with Taylor Swift due to her endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race. The post, shared over 1,800 times, alleged that Coca-Cola stated, “We don’t support her endorsement.”

Our Rating: False

This claim originated from a satirical source and was not based on any factual evidence. Swift’s endorsement of Harris did not affect her relationship with Coca-Cola. In fact, the claim was traced back to a Facebook post by “SpaceX Fanclub,” part of the SpaceXMania network, which is known for sharing satirical content. The original post clearly marked the claim as satire, but subsequent reposts misrepresented it as genuine news.

Swift, who has endorsed political candidates in the past, entered into a deal with Coca-Cola in 2013 to promote Diet Coke. There is no evidence or credible reports suggesting the company has terminated its partnership with the pop star over her political views.

As is common with viral misinformation, the post misled many who were unaware of its satirical origin. Both AI-detection tools, ZeroGPT and QuillBot, confirmed that the majority of the circulating articles on this topic were AI-generated, further contributing to the spread of false claims.

USA TODAY and PolitiFact have also debunked this misinformation, reinforcing that Swift’s endorsement of Harris has no bearing on her relationship with Coca-Cola.
