NRL REPORT: Addo-Carr tipped to be cut loose as Dogs crunch meeting revealed

Phil Gould’s telling three-word response to Josh Addo-Carr drama

Phil Gould: “Too Many Contradictions” in Josh Addo-Carr Case as Bulldogs Star’s Future Remains Uncertain…

Bulldogs supremo Phil Gould has expressed doubts over the future of Josh Addo-Carr as the star winger’s career hangs in the balance following an alleged positive roadside drug test for cocaine. Despite Addo-Carr maintaining his innocence, a second test has also returned a positive result, complicating the situation.

Addo-Carr’s lawyer, Elias Tabchouri, issued a statement acknowledging the facts of the police report but emphasized that Addo-Carr denies consuming any drugs not prescribed by a doctor. However, Addo-Carr has accepted a $682 fine and a three-month suspension from driving, a move Gould described as “virtually an admission of guilt.”

Speaking on Channel 9’s 100% Footy and his podcast Six Tackles with Gus, Gould admitted the situation is filled with “too many contradictions.” He stated that while Addo-Carr initially provided one version of events, it had changed as new details emerged. Gould said, “At the end of the day, what we have is a positive drugs test. He’s still protesting his innocence, but he has to explain how that’s happened.”

Addo-Carr is expected to meet with the NRL Integrity Unit, which will assess whether he misrepresented the events to the Bulldogs. Depending on their findings, further penalties may follow.

While Addo-Carr’s legal issues are now settled, his future at Canterbury remains in doubt. Gould confirmed he would recommend a course of action to the board but noted that the club is still investigating. “We’re still searching to find out what really happened. But at some point, there will be a discussion with his manager and with Josh going forward,” Gould added.

Speculation over Addo-Carr’s future is mounting, with reports suggesting his $550,000-a-year contract could be torn up. NRL experts believe the star winger could face a three to four-week suspension, but the more significant question remains whether he will continue with the Bulldogs.

As Gould put it, the decision will take into account the club’s image, culture, and the precedent it sets for younger players, making it a pivotal moment for the Bulldogs’ leadership.
