Tadej Pogačar Wraps Up a Stellar Season, with More to Come, Says UAE Team Boss Gianetti

Tadej Pogačar is finishing what many are calling the best season of his career. With major victories in races like the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Strade Bianche, GP Montréal, and the Volta a Catalunya, it seems the Slovenian cycling star is already at the peak of his powers. But according to his UAE Team Emirates boss, Mauro Gianetti, this may only be the beginning.

At 26, Pogačar is still in his prime years, with Gianetti confident that the Slovenian’s best performances are yet to come. “He’s still so young,” Gianetti said in an interview with WielerFlits. “We know that riders can improve physically until they’re at least 30. It’s also necessary that he continues to develop, because the competition does that too.”

Among the competition Gianetti is referring to are riders like Belgian sensation Remco Evenepoel and other emerging talents who are rapidly rising through the ranks. Pogačar may already have an impressive list of achievements, but Gianetti stresses that constant growth is essential to staying at the top of the sport.

“It’s been an incredible season,” Gianetti reflected, especially given the audacity of Pogačar’s primary goal: to win both the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France. Pogačar achieved that double with a level of dominance that left the cycling world in awe. “It’s difficult for us to realize what he has achieved because it is unprecedented,” Gianetti added.

Looking Ahead: More Goals on the Horizon

While Pogačar’s agent, Alex Carera, has hinted that his client is eyeing future victories in races like the Vuelta a España and the Tour Down Under, Gianetti remained tight-lipped about Pogačar’s specific plans for the 2025 season. “At the moment, we have to stay focused until the Giro di Lombardia,” Gianetti stated, emphasizing that the team’s priority is to maintain focus until the end of the season, which includes the upcoming World Championships.

The final decisions for Pogačar’s next season, including which grand tours and races he’ll prioritize, will only be made after carefully considering the routes for the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, and Vuelta a España. “Of course, the courses will also influence his new season structure,” Gianetti noted.

Pogačar’s racing schedule for 2025 won’t be finalized until later in the year. “These are important decisions to make. You have to make them calmly, not in the hectic pace of the race, because then you might make a mistake. So we will make the final decisions somewhere in November or December,” Gianetti said.

A Champion with Room to Grow

Pogačar’s remarkable accomplishments have already cemented his legacy in cycling, but according to Gianetti, the best is yet to come. With youth still on his side and a hunger to continue winning at the highest levels, the Slovenian’s future could hold even more extraordinary moments. As his team navigates the pressures of staying at the top of the sport, one thing is clear: Tadej Pogačar is not finished yet.

For now, fans and rivals alike must wait to see how Pogačar’s 2025 plans unfold. But if his 2024 season is any indication, the Slovenian superstar is far from reaching his limit.
