With three Tour de France titles and a Giro d’Italia victory already under his belt, the question of when Tadej Pogačar will complete his Grand Tour set by targeting the Vuelta a España is a hot topic of discussion. Now, thanks to his agent Alex Carera, we might have some insight.
“His dream is to win all the major races on the calendar. I’m confident he’ll return to La Vuelta in 2025 or 2026,” said Carera in an interview with Relevo, discussing the future plans of the dominant UAE Team Emirates leader. “However, this will be a decision he makes in consultation with his team and those closest to him. As of now, I’d say there’s about a 50% chance we’ll see him there next year.”
Pogačar has only competed in the Vuelta a España once before, finishing 3rd overall and claiming three stage wins during his Grand Tour debut in 2019. Now that he has secured both the Maglia Rosa and the Maillot Jaune, it seems like the right time for him to return to Spain and aim for the Red Jersey to complete his collection.
“Each year, he sets a new goal, a different challenge. Two seasons ago, it was the Tour of Flanders; this year, it was the Giro,” Carera added. “I know he’s eager to return to two races: the Tour Down Under and the Vuelta.”
Whether Pogačar will attempt a Tour de France/Vuelta a España double or skip the Tour for a season to focus solely on the Spanish Grand Tour remains uncertain. However, it’s clear from his agent’s comments that Pogačar’s return to the Vuelta a España is on the horizon—a thrilling prospect to watch unfold over the coming year.
