9 Dead, 1 Injured After Semi-Truck and Van Collide at Wisconsin Highway Intersection: Sheriff
Nine people lost their lives, and one person was injured following a collision between a semi-truck and a van at a highway intersection in Dewhurst Township, central Wisconsin, according to authorities.
The tragic accident occurred on Friday morning at the crossroads of Highway 95 and County Road J, as reported by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. The semi-truck was heading east on Highway 95, while the van was traveling north on County Road J. The collision happened shortly before 8 a.m. local time, when the van entered the intersection and was struck by the semi, according to preliminary reports from the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office confirmed that eight individuals in the van, including the driver, as well as the semi-truck driver, were pronounced dead at the scene. A single passenger from the van survived the crash and was taken to a local hospital. The condition of the survivor has not been disclosed.
Authorities are withholding the identities of those involved until their families have been notified.
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers expressed his sorrow over the fatal crash on X, stating, “Kathy and I are deeply saddened by the tragic accident in Clark County that claimed nine lives today. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims, as well as the first responders who acted swiftly at the scene.”
Aerial footage from ABC’s Twin Cities affiliate KTSP captured the aftermath, showing significant damage to both vehicles. The semi-truck was found lying in a ditch off the highway, while the van was nearby on its side. The scene has since been cleared.
