Report: Chiefs would have sanction Kadarius Toney, despite helping them win a Super Bowl
The Kansas City Chiefs have released wide receiver Kadarius Toney after unsuccessfully seeking a trade partner. Despite the drama and inconsistent performance during the regular season, Toney played a crucial role in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory, delivering an impressive performance.

Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach stands by the decision to acquire Toney, who joined the team in 2022 from the New York Giants in exchange for third and sixth-round draft picks. Over his time with the Chiefs, Toney participated in 20 regular-season games, starting in five, and significantly contributed to the team’s championship run.

Toney’s tenure with the Chiefs saw him accumulate 430 receiving yards and one touchdown. However, he missed the last seven games of the 2023 season, including Super Bowl LVIII, where the Chiefs triumphed over the San Francisco 49ers.
Toney was instrumental in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVII victory against the Philadelphia Eagles, catching a touchdown pass and returning a punt for 65 yards at a critical moment in the game.
Veach reflected on the trade, stating, “I don’t think we’re here aiming for a third straight Super Bowl [championship] without that trade. So, from that perspective, we’d make the same decision again without hesitation,” despite Toney not reaching the expected numbers in 2023.
