“Thank God, Trump Shooter Took Headshot, Had He…”: Ex-US Navy SEAL Explains Secret Service Failures

At a House Republican forum on the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on August 27, former US Navy SEAL officer Erik Carmichael detailed what he perceives as critical failures by the Secret Service. Carmichael, known for his extensive experience in counterterrorism operations, expressed his concerns over the vulnerabilities in the former president’s security detail that allowed the incident to occur.

Carmichael stated, “Thank God, the shooter took a headshot. Had he aimed differently, we might be dealing with a different scenario today.” He went on to explain how such a close-range attack on a high-profile individual highlights potential gaps in the Secret Service’s protective measures.

During his testimony, Carmichael emphasized the need for a thorough review and overhaul of the protective protocols surrounding former presidents. “This incident should be a wake-up call,” he added, urging lawmakers to take immediate action to prevent future threats.

The forum, which was held to scrutinize the circumstances surrounding the attempt on Trump’s life, also saw contributions from other security experts who echoed Carmichael’s concerns. The Secret Service has yet to respond to the specific criticisms raised during the session, but a spokesperson assured that an internal investigation is underway.

As the investigation continues, the incident has sparked widespread debate on the effectiveness of the security measures in place for former presidents and the need for potential reforms to ensure their safety.
