Report: Hiker saved from hypothermia in the Lake District….

EMERGENCY services were called to the aid of a lone walker battling hypothermia after a suspected asthma attack in poor weather conditions on Scafell Pike.

The Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) and North West Air Ambulance Charity H08 were called to action at 4:51 pm on August 25. Despite challenging conditions with wind, cold, and mist, a team was dispatched immediately to provide assistance. However, the helicopter service had to be canceled due to adverse weather.

Before the rescue team could arrive, two other groups of walkers found the individual in need and offered help.

A spokesperson from Wasdale MRT stated that once additional team members and equipment arrived, the walker was treated and carefully secured in a stretcher to prevent further heat loss. Heat packs, a vapour barrier, and a winter casualty bag were used. The team then carried the stretcher from the remote location to Brackenclose, where the walker was handed over to a waiting land ambulance.

The spokesperson extended well wishes for the walker’s recovery and expressed gratitude to those who remained on the scene until the rescue team arrived, particularly the two walkers who provided their own clothing and stayed in the shelter to help raise the temperature, an effort for which the rescued walker was extremely grateful.
