Geddy Lee Speaks on Rush Re-Union – report

For a little while I thought it’d be good to get back out on tour. And then I thought… ‘Nah, not really’”

“I don’t wanna sit in a hotel room for hours and hours and hours to work for a couple of hours.”

Alex Lifeson has dismissed the idea of a Rush reunion anytime soon, despite briefly considering the possibility. Following the death of drummer Neil Peart in 2020, Rush disbanded, and since then, Lifeson and bassist Geddy Lee have pursued their own musical projects. Speculation about the two reuniting intensified after their performances at the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts in 2022.

In a recent interview with Guitar World, Lifeson acknowledged the ongoing rumors about him and Lee collaborating again. He explained that the hope for a reunion likely stems from how Rush ended their touring nine years ago, leaving some fans without a sense of closure. However, he emphasized that the band disbanded primarily for Peart, who retired due to his inability to perform at the high standards he set for himself.

Lifeson revealed that he briefly entertained the idea of returning to the road after joining Lee on his book tour and performing at the tribute concerts but ultimately decided against it. “I’m not interested in going back out on tour,” he said, adding that while he cherished his time with Rush, it’s a chapter that has closed. Whether he and Lee will collaborate on new music remains uncertain, as both continue to focus on their individual projects.
