Michael Dawson issues strong verdict on Wilson Odobert’s debut display for Tottenham

Michael Dawson has shared his thoughts on Wilson Odobert’s debut performance for Tottenham Hotspur. On Saturday, Tottenham fans witnessed their new summer signing, Odobert, make his first appearance for the club during their 4-0 victory over Everton.

The match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium marked Spurs’ first win of the season, with Heung-min Son scoring twice and Yves Bissouma and Cristian Romero also adding to the scoreline. The signing of Odobert, which came as a surprise to many due to the lack of prior speculation, saw him take the field against Sean Dyche’s Everton side.

Odobert was notably active, frequently taking on defenders and contributing significantly while he was on the pitch. He was substituted midway through the second half, with Richarlison coming on in his place. Despite his limited time on the field, Odobert’s performance made a positive impression.

Michael Dawson, speaking on Sky Sports, commented favorably on Odobert’s debut. “Wilson Odobert’s first start for Spurs was very promising. His driving runs and the way he attacks full-backs were impressive. I think he will be a valuable asset,” Dawson remarked.

The stats from the game also highlight Odobert’s solid performance. According to Whoscored, he completed 31 accurate passes, surpassing other key players like Son, Brennan Johnson, and Dejan Kulusevski. Additionally, Odobert managed three successful challenges, with only Cristian Romero making more.

While Odobert’s long-term impact will likely be judged by his contributions in the final third, his initial showing suggests that he is working diligently to meet the expectations set by manager Ange Postecoglou. Vincent Kompany had previously expressed that Odobert’s talent might not be fully recognized, but the young player now has the chance to demonstrate his potential on a prominent stage.
