Since Travis Scott’s album UTOPIA lost Rap Album of the Year to Killer Mike’s MICHAEL at the 2024 Grammy Awards, there’s been tension between their fanbases.

Killer Mike, who had previously responded to complaints from streamers like Kai Cenat and Adin Ross about his win, discussed the situation with Complex on August 19. “As an artist, I have a deep respect for Travis Scott. He’s amazing,” the Atlanta rapper stated.

He added, “I don’t think anyone deserves anything over me, especially when I’ve given my best, but many of his fans — they don’t like Mike now. I have to accept that, and that’s okay.”

Killer Mike then reflected on the emotional depth of his music compared to Scott’s. “There will come a time in their lives when they face significant personal losses. What song will they turn to?” he asked, emphasizing the impact of his track “MOTHERLESS.”

He continued, “I enjoy Travis’s music, but does it resonate like shedding tears over not being able to see your child or dealing with child support issues? That’s what my music addresses. It’s there for you.”

Despite receiving 10 Grammy nominations, Scott has yet to win a Grammy. Both UTOPIA and ASTROWORLD failed to secure the Rap Album of the Year award.

On HBO’s The Shop, Scott discussed his view on the importance of the accolade, saying, “A lot of our peers say, ‘F**k that award.’ I respect it. You play football to win a Super Bowl; you play basketball to win championships. That’s what the Grammy used to represent, and that’s the idea I hold onto.”
