Nick Kyrgios’ girlfriend Costeen Hatzi had to be hospitalised – report

Nick Kyrgios’ girlfriend lifts the lid on ‘scary’ health ordeal in Mexico

Nick Kyrgios’ girlfriend, Costeen Hatzi, has opened up about a frightening health scare she experienced after traveling with him to Mexico for a recent tournament. Hatzi, who has been accompanying Kyrgios on the ATP tour for several months, was in Mexico earlier this month for an exhibition event called Tennis Showdown.

However, shortly after arriving, Hatzi was rushed to the hospital due to a sudden illness. Responding to fan inquiries this week, the social media influencer revealed she had suffered from a kidney infection.

“I was so sick in the hospital that I didn’t get to see much of Mexico!” she wrote on Instagram, sharing a photo of herself in the hospital with Kyrgios by her side. “I had a fever during the flight and ended up going straight to the emergency room when we landed. I was diagnosed with a kidney infection.

“Fortunately, the tennis association and hospital staff were incredibly caring and helpful. But it was a bit scary being so sick in a foreign country. The tacos were amazing, though.”

Earlier this week, Kyrgios announced that he would return to the French Open in 2023 after a six-year break, but only because his girlfriend wants to visit Paris. Kyrgios, who has not played at Roland Garros since 2017 and has previously expressed his dislike for the clay-court grand slam, said, “My girlfriend wants to see Paris, so I’m going to play at Roland-Garros 2023. It will be good for me to earn some more money, although I would have preferred to stay at home.”

Kyrgios has never advanced past the third round at the French Open, and clay is his weakest surface. However, he remains optimistic about his chances in 2023, stating, “I know I can achieve great results on clay. I’ve beaten Roger [Federer] and [Stan] Wawrinka, and I reached the final in Estoril… My girlfriend wants to explore the city, so I’ll have to go this year.”

It’s been a challenging week for the World No.22, who expressed frustration on social media after being overlooked for the prestigious Newcombe Medal. The award, the highest honor in Australian tennis, was given to Ash Barty, who won the Australian Open in January before retiring in March.

Many believed Kyrgios should have at least been a joint winner alongside Barty, if not the sole recipient. Barty became the first Australian to win the Australian Open in 44 years, as well as claiming singles and doubles titles in Adelaide, all within the first three months of the year.

Kyrgios, who had the best year of his career, winning four titles (including the Australian Open doubles crown) and reaching the Wimbledon singles final where he lost to Novak Djokovic, was frustrated by the decision. He posted on Instagram, sharing a graphic comparing his year with Barty’s, and wrote: “LOL. No respect at all. I don’t give a f***.”

However, Kyrgios’ decision not to play in the Davis Cup for Australia since 2019 likely influenced the outcome. The Newcombe Medal is named after John Newcombe, who won five Davis Cup titles for Australia. In contrast, Kyrgios was preparing for an exhibition event in Saudi Arabia while his Davis Cup teammates were competing in the final against Canada.

Explaining his absence from the Davis Cup final, Kyrgios said it was an easy decision to accept the lucrative offer in Saudi Arabia, citing a lack of respect from Australian fans as a reason for his reluctance to represent the national team.
