Western Bulldogs reveal contract extension for rookie player
The Western Bulldogs have extended rookie Joel Freijah’s contract by an additional year, keeping him with the team until the end of the 2026 season.
Freijah, a Horsham native, has played 10 AFL games this year since being drafted as the 45th pick in last November’s National Draft. The 18-year-old defender has averaged 14.2 disposals and 4.8 marks per game and also appeared in six VFL matches, which led to his AFL debut in Round 9 against Richmond.
Bulldogs list manager Sam Power praised Freijah for his diligent work and positive development as a defender. “Joel hasn’t put a foot wrong since joining the Club at the start of the year,” Power said. “We see a lot of growth in Joel and look forward to his continued development over the next two years.”
Freijah had a strong run of 10 consecutive senior games before being managed and returning to the VFL. He may be included in the team for their upcoming match against Adelaide, scheduled for Sunday at 4:10pm (AEST) at Adelaide Oval.
In addition to Freijah, the Bulldogs have also secured contracts for several other players, including Lachie Bramble (2025), Jedd Busslinger (2026), Harvey Gallagher (2026), Tom Liberatore (2025), Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (2026), Cody Weightman (2027), and Rhylee West (2026) in 2024.
