August 17, 2024

Coldplay’s ‘Music of the Spheres’ tour has officially become the highest-grossing rock tour of all time, according to Billboard Boxscore. The British band’s tour, which began in March 2022, has raked in $945.7 million and sold 8.8 million tickets, surpassing previous records set over the past 40 years.

The tour has outperformed Sir Elton John’s ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour, which generated $939 million from 328 shows over five years. Elton John’s tour had previously exceeded Ed Sheeran’s ‘The Divide Tour,’ which grossed $776.4 million.

Despite Coldplay’s success, they are unlikely to surpass Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour,’ which became the first tour to gross over $1 billion in December. Swift’s tour has reportedly sold 4.3 million tickets with an average price of $238.95, generating around $17.3 million per show for the current leg of the tour.

Coldplay’s tour is also noted for its environmental initiatives, achieving a 59% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to their previous stadium tour and planting 7 million trees globally. This aligns with the band’s commitment to sustainable practices in their live shows.

In other news, Coldplay recently announced the tracklist for their upcoming album, ‘Moon Music,’ and performed a new track featuring Little Simz, Burna Boy, Elyanna, and Tini at Glastonbury. The band’s ongoing success and their plans for future albums reflect their continued impact on the music industry.
