Stephon Marbury on LeBron James: “He shouldn’t even be compared to Michael Jordan.”

Former NBA point guard and two-time All-Star Stephon Marbury has voiced skepticism about LeBron James being considered the greatest basketball player of all time. Marbury suggests that James doesn’t even belong in the same conversation as Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan.

Marbury responded strongly to a social media post that emphasized Jordan’s record for the most scoring titles in NBA history.

However, when comparing the achievements of both players, it can be argued that James does belong in the discussion with Jordan.

While Jordan has more scoring titles, James has accumulated more career points, currently standing at 40,474, the highest total ever in the NBA, compared to Jordan’s 32,292, which ranks fifth all-time.

James also surpasses Jordan in All-Star selections (20 to 14), All-NBA Team honors (20 to 11), and NBA Finals appearances (10 to six).

Jordan, on the other hand, leads in NBA titles, MVP awards, and Finals MVP awards. Despite having two fewer NBA championships than Jordan, James still has the opportunity to narrow that gap. After the Lakers’ early exit in the 2024 NBA Playoffs, they will aim for a deeper run next season with J.J. Redick taking over as head coach.

James last played in a championship series in 2020, when the Lakers won their 17th title by defeating the Miami Heat. If James secures his fifth NBA title this season, it would bolster his case as the greatest player of all time.
