Driver Rescued from Truck Dangling Over Ohio River in Louisville

In a dramatic rescue, Louisville first responders saved a truck driver whose semi-truck was left hanging off the Clark Memorial Bridge in Kentucky after a crash. The accident occurred on March 1, 2024, when the truck, traveling northbound on the bridge, crossed lanes and crashed through the guardrail, leaving it precariously dangling over the Ohio River.

The incident was reported around 12:15 PM local time, and emergency services quickly arrived at the scene. Video footage captured the tense moments as a first responder was lowered from a ladder to reach the truck and safely lift the driver to safety. The truck’s trailer was wedged against the bridge’s beams, preventing it from plunging into the river below, while the hood hung open from the cab.

The semi-truck, which bore the name “Sysco,” a food distribution company, remained intact during the rescue. Sysco later expressed gratitude to the first responders, stating, “Sysco is enormously grateful to rescue services and law enforcement who quickly and safely resolved the accident on the Clark Memorial Bridge today. We are thankful our Sysco colleague is safe and thank the first responders for their courageous efforts.”

Officials reported that a motor vehicle collision caused the truck to veer off course, leading to the crash. The Clark Memorial Bridge was temporarily closed to traffic as rescue operations continued.
